The number in parentheses following the course title indicates the number of credits granted for successful completion of that course. The numbers 7-8-9-10-11-12 following the course description indicate the grades in which these courses are generally taken. Final placement in English, foreign language, science, and mathematics courses will be determined by the school on the basis of scores on Admission Tests and/or grade in previously taken courses in that subject area. Spanish I Elementary grammar with introduction to verb conjugations. Emphasis on vocabulary building, comprehension, translation and conversation, includes an introduction to Hispanic history and insights into present Hispanic societies. Prereq.=none for grades 9-12 - consent of registrar needed for grades 7-8 (7-12) Spanish II A continuation of Spanish I, with extensive work in complex verb tenses and language structure. Added emphasis on vocabulary buildings, oral comprehension, translation and conversation. Included is a view of all aspects of Hispanic cultures with specific attention to the history and culture of Spain. Prereq.=C or better in Spanish I (8-12) Spanish III A continuation of Spanish II including comprehensive review of grammatical concepts. Added emphasis given to vocabulary expansion through cultural or historic narratives, literary selections, and conversations dealing with practical tourist or career-oriented situations. Prereq.=C or better in Spanish II or consent of instructor (9-12) Spanish IV Emphasis is on developing oral and speaking skill through the reading of novels and short stories. Grammar will be reviewed as needed. Prereq.=B or better in Spanish III or by petition to Language Department or by invitation of instructor (11-12) German I Fundamentals of German speaking, writing and grammar. A vocabulary of 850 words developed. Prereq.=none for grades 9-12, consent of registrar needed for grades 7-8 (9-12) German II Fluency of speech, sentence structure, and grammar are stressed; 1400 word vocabulary is developed.
